Here’s the thing about Brittany that gets me really angry (at the writers, not at her). She was essentially created to be a character who’s only purpose was to spout “dumb” one liners. At the beginning, that was okay. Everyone on this show started out really one note but they grew into real, multidimensional characters (well, as multidimensional as Glee gets) as the show progressed.

For Brittany, that development primarily happened in late season 2 with the Brittana plot. Through this plot, she was allowed to grow past her one liners and was shown to be a very emotionally intelligent person. The thing is that, while Brittany may not be books smart, she’s feelings smart. Like in this moment here (point blank my favourite Brittany moment in the whole series). While Santana doesn’t get (or at least refuses to admit) what the Glee club means to her, Brittany completely understands. She gets how important these friendships are and understands, both for herself and for everyone in the club, just how much they need each other. It’s reasons like this that make me completely understand why Santana is always calling her a genius.

HOWEVER, then season 3 started and, after a brief stint of trying to use her to promote Glee’s half-assed attempt at feminism, she was once again pushed to the back; only allowed to speak if Glee wanted to make another joke at her expense. The same thing is happening this season, only now that she’s one of the last originals she’s been pushed forward to make even MORE even DUMBER jokes.

Then Ryan Murphy has to go and say she doesn’t have the emotional capacity to be what Santana needs and all I keep thinking is, “She does. She did. You just took it away because you couldn’t use her as a joke anymore.”

More Than Words feelings

I love the song More Than Words.

What I don’t love about More Than Words is how a large portion of people don’t seem to realise it is a break up song. Or, at least on the verge of breaking up song.

The title is very literal, I need more than words to know that you love me.

I hadn’t seen the Sneak Peek yet, and just knew it was Bram singing it, so I was thinking that this could be an interesting way for the end of Bram. The whole saying you are in love, doesn’t necessarily mean you are actually in love.

Then I find out that yes, this indeed the song they are singing to the fucking Cat.

Now, I love Lord Tubbington and as a result of my love of Lord Tubbington, this is NOT the song I’d be singing to him.

Then again, Brittany also loves Lord Tubbington, and maybe she needs him to do something for her to know that their love is balanced.

So, there is a way this could make me not pissed off for song choice.

For all the haters out there, let’s also remember that Brittany and Lord Tubbington is canon and is mentioned a lot.

This is hardly the worst thing that Glee has ever done, remember when Finn sang about losing faith in his sandwich?

Or when Blaine sang a break up song with his brother?

So, basically, Glee, it can always be worse.

Why does everyone always envision Brittany as a dancer in their future Glee fics?

glee-is-evil:

Like she’s obviously meant to be a photographer or filmmaker. Come on, people.

Why does it always have to be Santana who’s the jealous one?

clairewasright-suckit:

Because all this does is prove to the Brittana naysayers that Santana loves Brittany but it’s totally one-sided. Why can’t it be Brittany who has to fight for Santana?

Brittany HAS fought for Santana.

Brittany is the first one that wanted something more from their sex isn’t dating relationship and she first mentions it in Duets.

In Sexy, it was Brittany that wanted the feelings in their relationship, for it to mean something more and forced Santana’s hand into doing something about it.
In Born This Way, it was Brittany that wanted Santana to put on the Lebanese shirt and come dance with her.
In whatever episode it happened, I think it was Rumours, Brittany suggested to Santana that Santana come onto Fondue for Two and ask her to the Prom, with Brittany saying yes. Which is a really roundabout way of asking Santana to the Prom but in a way that Santana will be somewhat comfortable with her sexuality.
In the Prom… is that the name of the episode? Brittany followed Santana out and told her that she loved her and voted for her and said people could tell she was hiding a part of herself.

Brittany has fought plenty for Santana.
Do I think Brittany has been manipulative of Santana? Yes. Especially, in Rumours, because evil genius Brittany is the best.

The Brittana issue is that no wait has ever been given to Brittany’s feelings and it has always been dictated by Santana.
It has always been about Santana coming to terms with her feelings, and deciding where to go next. Even when they broke up, it was about Santana’s feelings and not Brittany’s.

Just because Brittany has never been jealous in the same way that, jealous and possessive Santana has, does not mean that she has never fought her.

Santana has been jealous about Puck numerous times before. Jealously is a trait of Santana’s and it isn’t really a trait of Brittany’s.

Mine was a horrible song choice for this moment.

Not because it was brilliantly performed or the emotion wasn’t there, but because the words don’t work.

Not the part where Brittany is the best thing that has ever been Santana’s, that’s kind of sweet, if we ignore the possessive aspect there that bothers me on a larger scale.

The part that I find off putting is that in the song it mentions the fight at 2.30am and the Taylor/Santana left, under the expectation that that was the end and the relationship with Nameless Dude/Brittany was now over, but ND/Britt surprised her and followed and returned the sentiment and that Nameless Dude/Brittany was never going to let go of this love.

The entire song is about how someone who didn’t expect love, didn’t want it and had always let down by love was surprised by someone who could give them everything and how that happened and then waited for the other shoe to drop, but it never did.

From this song, I didn’t think that Brittana were going to break up.
I thought they were going to have a fight and then make up to this song and be strong enough to handle the long distance relationship and if that happened, it would have been a beautiful song to use.

But as a break up song, it is you are the best thing to ever be mine, but that best isn’t good enough anymore.

So, what’s that say about Brittany?
That suddenly what, Brittany isn’t convenient anymore and it became too hard an even though she’s the best thing to be yours, she isn’t good enough for that role anymore… Even though that’s what Brittany wants. That’s all that Brittany has EVER wanted.

Brittany didn’t want to be left behind, and that’s exactly what she told Santana in their fight.
And that’s exactly what Santana confirmed that she was doing.

Yes, sometimes love isn’t enough, but saying you’ll always be mine and then breaking up with someone is a horrible mixed message.

There are goodbye songs out there. There are songs that the message is “I’ll always love you but this isn’t working anymore”.
